Patterns

Each pattern consists of a list of encounter sprites, as well as an ordered list of logic used for each movement. These are executed top-to-bottom, where the left column has conditions and the right side instructions to be executed if the condition is met. If the instructions include multiple parts, they will be executed in order, and until an instruction is completed, conditions won't be checked again. When not stated otherwise, direction of movement is chosen at random.

Sequences are series of movements that will be executed over multiple moves. Each number in the sequence represents a step of the player, and only after the sequence is finished, the pattern will check for how to proceed.

Italicized phrases are modes, such as Active, which are enabled through instructions when mentioned, and disabled when mentioned with a strike-through rendering.

Proximity means distance in tiles from the enemy. An entity directly adjacent to an enemy has a Proximity of 1. X-Proximity means that only the horizontal distance is taken into account, as Y-Proximity means only vertical.

Passability checks for directions the Player could move to (empty floor tiles, doorways, and healing tiles are considered passable), but the enemy might still not move there due to i.e. not being able to move into doorways.

When encountering one or more encounter sprites, if you escape from a battle, those sprites will not move for one step.
Encountering an enemy on a point in the sequence in which they move, or attempt to move, they will (after the free step) continue with their pattern. Encountering an enemy when they don't move sets the pattern (after the free step) to continue with the first move action in their sequence.
Entering a floor, or (re)entering a room resets the pattern to the beginning.

Teleporters

When teleporting, the above enemies will invisibly move across the map. They will first randomly decide to go up or down (vertical) to then move at least two tiles in that direction (if they can't move at least two tiles, they won't move), then the process is repeated for left or right (horizontal). This movement respects passability and can be blocked by obstacles, however they are able to move through doors.

When teleporting, these enemies will try to find a spot that's 2 tiles away both horizontally and vertically from the player, and only select a different position if the chosen tile isn't passable.
